Chris McCreary joins Strike FC as Director of Coaching U13-U18 Boys

Strike FC Wisconsin is very excited to announce that Chris McCreary has joined the organization in the role of Director of Coaching for U13-U18 Boys.

Chris has had both a decorated playing and coaching career here in southeastern Wisconsin.

During his playing days he played with the Sherman Park Kickers, Wauwatosa Kickers, Bavarian Soccer Club, University of Wisconsin-Madison and the Milwaukee Kickers Majors.  He had the opportunity to win State Titles and played with the USYSA Region II ODP team which led to college recruitment and to playing at the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he played for 1 year.  His playing experiences came under coaches such as:

Bob Gansler – 1990 US Men’s National Team Head Coach

Brian Thompkins – current Yale University Head Coach

Craig Peltonen – current Marian College Head Coach

Jim Launder – former UW-Madison Head Coach and current WYSA Director of Coaching

Chris began coaching in 1993.  Upon invitation, he joined the Milwaukee Kickers Nationals staff in 1995 and has coached there through the club’s evolutions from Kickers Nationals to FC Milwaukee Nationals and most recently FC Wisconsin Nationals.  His experiences coaching youth include contributing to the development of players that have gone on to play in US Youth National Teams, every possible collegiate level, and professionally.  He served as the club’s USSDA and NPL Director, in addition to ultimately being named interim Director of Coaching in 2013.  Along with having coached most ages among both boys and girls, he has made one appearance at the USYSA National Final Four, multiple USYSA Region II finals, semi-finals and group stage appearances and won a host of Wisconsin State Championships.

At various stages, Chris has spent time on the Wisconsin ODP staff and on the high school staffs of Nicolet, Brookfield Central, and Whitefish Bay high schools.  A great believer in expanding youth players’ cultural awareness and competitive horizons, he has also coordinated two training and friendlies trips abroad.  The first to England where players trained at Chelsea FC and Fulham Football Club, and another to Spain where players trained at current UEFA Champion Real Madrid and the City of Futbol (Spanish National Team’s Training facility).

Chris holds both the USSF “A” license and the NSCAA Director of Coaching diploma as part of his credentials.  We are excited to have Chris join us with his focus on taking our boys program to new levels of performance in future years.  Chris can be reached at Strike FC at [email protected].

Rob Lestina Adds Technical Director to Strike FC Responsibilities

Strike FC Wisconsin is pleased to announce that Rob Lestina will add the role of Technical Director to his responsibilities here at Strike.  In this capacity Rob will partner with key volunteers and staff to provide both strategic and tactical leadership to our Directors of Coaching and all of the coaching staff at Strike FC.  Rob will also continue in his role as Director of coaching for U13-U18 Girls.

Rob joined Strike FC Wisconsin in 2012 by returning to his Wisconsin roots from Eclipse Soccer Club in Houston, Texas.  Prior to working at Eclipse as Director of Soccer Operations Rob had spent 15 years with FC Milwaukee (now Wisconsin) as a coach, tournament director, and web site manager.  He also spent 4 years as a volunteer assistant coach with the Marquette University Women’s team.  Rob has won 15 Wisconsin state championships and been a Midwest Regional semi-finalist 3 times during his career.  His strengths include the development of curriculum, mentoring of coaches, counseling on the path to college soccer, and a strong network of contacts at all levels of soccer throughout the United States.  Rob holds a USSF National “A” license, which is the highest in the USSF series.

We are excited to see Rob take on this additional role.  Rob can be reached at Strike FC at [email protected].

Bonnie Blair Cruikshank with our Strike FC players

Bonnie Blair Cruikshank with our Strike FC players

This past Wednesday the U14, U15, U17, and U18 girls Strike FC Premier I teams took a break from their normal practice routine to listen to Olympic Gold Medalist Bonnie Blair Cruikshank.  Ms. Cruikshank, who is one of the most decorated Winter Olympians in US speed skating history, is also the mother of of one of our Select players.  Ms. Cruikshank shared many stories with the players as well as her thoughts on proper training and nutrition habits.  Her message to the players was clear: if you want to be successful, you must love what you are doing.

This meeting took place as the three older teams are preparing to compete in the State Championship finals this coming Saturday.  In addition to listening to Ms. Cruikshank, the players were given the chance to ask questions to the 4-time Winter Olympian.  One piece of advice Ms. Cruikshank gave the players was to “always skate through the finish.”  The evening culminated with an opportunity for the girls to meet Ms. Cruikshank and to have a picture taken with her and one of her gold medals.

We would like to thank Bonnie Blair Cruikshank for taking time out of her busy schedule to meet with our teams; we know that the players will “skate through the finish” this Saturday at the state championships.

Strike FC HS Girls Teams Reach State Championship Finals

Strike FC Wisconsin teams delivered strong performances at the High School Girls Club State Championships over the past 2 weeks.  So strong that there are Strike FC Wisconsin teams in three of the four finals matches to be played next Saturday at Uihlein Soccer Park in Milwaukee.  All three teams are coached by Rob Lestina, Director of Coaching for Girls U13-U18.  Rob has been assisted by Peter Byrne, Jason Burdge, TC Ward, and Steve Hamilton.

No other club in Wisconsin has more than 1 team in the finals.

Three teams reaching the state finals in the four High School age groups is something that all players, parents, and coaches in the club can take tremendous pride in.  As mentioned in August our name would evolve (now Strike FC Wisconsin) and our soccer would reach new heights (it has).

The State Championships are the biggest stage for club soccer in the state.  For U15-U18 girls the State Championships are contested in the fall because their WIAA high school season is in the spring. Our club shone brightly on that stage over the past two weekends and will compete for the top spots with skill, grit, and class next weekend.  Next spring on Memorial Day weekend our U13 and U14 Girls, and the U13-U18 boys will get their opportunity to add to Strike FC ‘s state championship successes.

Here is a summary of the teams and the path they took to reach the championship games next Saturday, September 28th:

U15G Premier I  defeated North Shore United 5-2,  tied Milwaukee Kickers Soccer Academy 0-0,   defeated Rush Wisconsin 1-0,  defeated Madison 56ers Red 2-0 in semi-finals.  Final vs. SC Waukesha Blue @ 9:00AM on Time Warner Cable Field.

U17G Premier I  defeated Elm Grove Blue 5-0,  defeated North Shore United 6-0,  defeated Rush Wisconsin 2-1,  defeated SC Waukesha Blue 2-1 in semi-finals.  Final vs. DePere Select @ 11:30AM on Time Warner Cable Field.

U18G Premier I  defeated MC United 2-1,  defeated Neenah Velocity 8-0,  defeated Madison 56ers Red 3-1,  defeated Appleton Soccer Club 2-0. Final vs. North Shore United @ 4:30PM on Time Warner Cable Field.

The State Championship winners go on to represent Wisconsin in the Midwest Regional Championships which will be held in Dayton, OH next June.  Winners of the 14 states in the Midwest along with 2 wild cards from Midwest Regional League play comprise the 16 team fields at Region. Good luck to the players, parents, and coaches as they pursue state titles this weekend.  1-2-3 -  Strike FC !
